Sunset

Behind the ocean the sun sets
The Gods observing cash their bets
Little balloon follows the sun
A race once run, can’t be undone

So many things, he couldn’t say
But whispered every night away
A blind man sees not with his sight
But in his heart, he feels the light

No oracle, no other choice
He listened to his inner voice
The devils giggle with delight
The angels bow their heads in spite

Now blackness creeps across the land
He never got to hold her hand
In winter months wild birds fly south
She wiped the grin off cupid’s mouth

A lonely rose stood in his room
The rose now doomed to wither soon
The Moonlight glistens on the lake
But depths conceal the hearts that ache

Engulfing her in smoke and mirrors
While in his heart affection simmers
One day the Villain, then the clown
They painted pictures over town

Her laugh like morphine to the brain
Soothing the soul, relieving pain
A weary heart, that sinks in sand
Will always crave an angel’s hand

Little balloon drifts out of sight
The fading light has turned to night
The sun has set, the birds took flight
Right becomes left, left turns to right
